手機短訊輸入模式操作使用性探討

摘要


本研究針對Nokia 6180、Motorola E365、Sony Ericsson W800i及Samsung SGH-168等品牌手機之短訊輸入功能介面與操作模式進行使用性評估,並以19-30歲之年輕族群為研究對象,透過擁有手機短訊操作經驗者的使用過程與主觀想法來探討,進而規劃問卷以了解本族群對於短訊輸入操作的認知與需求,並以此使用性之評估方法作為依據,觀察並記錄受測者的操作過程,從中尋找出其問題點,同時設定本實驗的典型工作項目,希望能夠歸納出良好操作介面的設計要點。 實驗之進行係以32 位受測者分四組,分別執行各品牌實驗手機的典型工作項目並獲得如下之結論: ◎目前市面不同廠牌手機所提供的短訊功能,除了數字輸入按鍵一樣,其如注音符號按鍵排法、英文字母按鍵排法及次要功能按鍵的配置等都有所不同。 ◎經過運用集群分析,本研究將調查的結果歸納為九個因素:切換語言輸入法的因素、選單層級理解因素、文字/圖示對應因素、獨立按鍵因素、層級文字說明因素、快捷鍵因素、需求因素、文字因素、功能因素。 ◎使用者選擇功能選單上的任一項目執行操作時,最好能以變色或字體加粗等方式突顯該項目的說明文字。 ◎對於使用者的任何輸入應該要有所回應,例如以立即在螢幕的顯示上有所改變等的方式給予確認。 ◎從實驗中可看出受測者並不清楚部分廠牌的短訊功能具有快捷鍵獨立的安排,因此在設計時需要考量到快捷鍵獨立按鍵安排之有效性。 ◎針對短訊的文字編輯部份,本實驗結果顯示切換文字輸入法是受測者最為感到困擾的部分。 ◎根據本實驗發現,有許多受測者會先按「*」鍵以嘗試其是否為切換輸入法快捷鍵,因此本研究建議各廠牌統一採用「*」鍵作為換輸入法的快捷鍵;另外本實驗也發現注音符號輸入法是年輕族群為常使用的一種輸入法,另外英文輸入法的選單文字標示是受測者所最為感到不瞭解的,例如:智慧型英 文、T9英文、ITAP等。 總之,本研究結果顯示若希望操作介面在使用上變得有效率,則其選單名稱、圖像內容、按鍵的主功能與次功能的文字或圖示等,對使用者而言都必需是明白而清楚的,如此才可減少操作錯誤率並且顯著增加使用者操作的信心。

In this study a usability assessment was conducted on the operational interface of text message input mode on mobile phones such as Nokia 6180、Motorola E365、Sony Ericsson W800i and Samsung SGH-168. The subjects were young users aged between 19-30. The questionnaire planning was based on the subjects’ experiences and their subjective thinking in using mobile phones. This study is to understand young users’ perception and needs of mobile phone usability concerning the input of text messages first, then observing and recording the subject’s operating process, to find out its problems and set up the typical tasks of this study. The aim is to reach some design guidelines for better interface design for the function of text message input mode on mobile phones. 32 subjects were separated into four groups to conduct the typical tasks on mobile phones of different brands. The findings of this study are as follows: ◎Different brand of mobile phones mostly has various input designs except for the arrangement of numerical keys. Besides, the arrangement of phonetic-symbol keys, alphabet keys and other function keys were all varied between different brands. ◎With clustering analysis on the results of the questionnaire survey, there are nine factors emerged : factor of switching between language input modes, factor of understandings on hierarchical structure of the menu, factor of text-to-icon correspondence, factor of independent keys, factor of understandability of terms used in every layer of the menu, factor of shortcut keys, factor of requirements,factor of terminology, and factor of functions. ◎ When the user selected any item on the menu, the item had better been emphasized with changed colors or block fonts. ◎A feed back for confirmation should be given to any input action from the user, e.g. the display can change somehow at once following the input. ◎ During the experiment, it was found that most subjects didn’t aware of the arrangement of the shortcut key for switching between language input modes. So the effectiveness of any shortcut key arrangement should be considered before it was designed. ◎In terms of text input operations, we found in this experiment that the thing which most troubled our subjects were switching between various language input modes. ◎We also found that most subjects tried the ‘*’ key first to see if it is the shortcut key for switching between various language input modes. So this study suggests manufacturers to unify the ‘*’ key as this shortcut key. Moreover, the language input mode which our subjects most familiar with was the phonetic input mode.In addition, the thing which they feel the most confusing was the terminology of options on the menu of English input mode such as input modes of “Intelligent English”, “T9”, “ITAP” and so on. In conclusion, it is found in this study that if we set out to enhance the usability of a user interface, then all terminologies and icons on the every layer of the menu must be clear and easy understanding enough, so that users can be less confused and less defeated.
