This study aims to compare the effectiveness of egoistic and altruistic appeals in green print advertisement considering various product involvements and environmental value. The result showed that the egoism appeal is the better way to persuade consumers to go green. By applying a 2 (egoistic/altruistic appeal types) x 3 (mineral water, shampoo and room air-conditioner) factorial research design to investigate 260 university students, we found that egoistic green appeal is more effective than altruistic green appeal compared to non-green appeal in general. In addition, the low level of product involvement (e.g., mineral water) is the more effective in the green appeal. Consumers’ environmental values (i.e., Pro-NEP and Anti-NEP) exhibit no significant main and interaction effects on all dependent variables.
