Improving the production efficiency in order to reduce the total cost is an aim that most manufacturers pursue actively. In reality, trade credit, reworking of imperfect quality items and partial backlogging exist side by side and affect the manufacturers’ costs. This paper studies the production policy under trade credit, reworking of imperfect quality items, and partial backlogging. In model 1, we consider trade credit and reworking of imperfect quality items into the production policy; afterward, we extend model 1 to consider partial backlogging and then establish model 2. We determine the optimal production lot size and maximum backorder level to minimize the total cost. This paper extends the traditional EPQ model by considering trade credit, reworking of imperfect quality items, and partial backlogging to cope with more realistic situation. We develop algorithms to solve the problem described. Finally, we use numerical example to explain process of solution and present the conclusion.
