Abstract The purpose of the study was to explore the relation of job stress and social support of administrative teachers in junior high schools in Taichung, and analyze the variable of different backgrounds and understand the relation between job stress and social support. Questionnaire survey method was adopted in this study, and Gi-Chung-Jin’s ‘Job stress scale’ and Chen-Hui-Fang’s ‘social support scale’ were applied. The questionnaires were passed out to 685 junior high school teachers, and five hundred and twelve effective sample questionnaires were returned. The return rate was 78% . The data was analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA, multi regression and Pearson’s correlation. The findings were : 1. The degree of job stress among administrative teachers in junior high schools in Taichung was below the average, with the feeling of “administrative overload” as the highest. 2. Different background variables of administrative teachers were not significant differences with the sense of job stress. 3. The degree of social support among administrative teachers was above the average, with the feeling of friends support as the highest and supervisor support as the lowest. 4. There were significant differences with the sense of social support within administrative teachers of different genders and positions; the female were higher than the male, and the section chiefs were higher than the directors. 5. Job stress and social support of administrative teachers had a negative correlation. Finally, this study could support that higher social support can reduce job stress. Based on the conclusions, the study provided some suggestions for leaders of school administration.
