Reviews of the literature identify many surgical techniques and materials that have been used successfully to obtain new clinical and histological attachment. Although great progresses have been made in the field of periodontal regeneration over the past three decades, to date the goal of complete and predictable regeneration of lost periodontium is an unrealistic goal. The purpose of this article is to provide evidence-based information of the periodontal regenerative therapies and implant-supported restoration, along with patient and local factor variables that may affect success rates or outcome predictability. In this article, we will focus on identifying treatment- and patient-related factors associated with periodontal regenerative outcome and long-term maintenance. On the other hand, this review article will also include types of dental implant, parameters for success/failure evaluation, and identify the biological factors contributing to failures of osseointegrated oral implants.
