The purpose of this study is to find out the industry sector with competitiveness in Taipei city when the national industrial structure gradually shifts by redefining traded sectors first. This paper adopts Drennan's system (1999), modifying it based on Taiwan's situation, and classifying traded sectors into two broad sectors: Manufacturing Sector and Services Sector. By calculating (The equation is abbreviated), it is concluded that the sector with competitiveness in Taipeicity is the services sector rather than the manufacturing sector. The accumulated resources gained by specializing in services since 1981 are the competitive advantages of Talpei city to compete in a global world. Redeveloping manufacturing is not an ultimate option for the future development of Taipei city. The local government will need to work on its efficiency and upgrade the infrastructure for becoming an information center in the pacific region.
