This study explored the information needs of family caregivers of terminally ill patients during the hospitalization. Previous studies showed that information was one of the most important needs of family caregivers of terminal cancer patients, and it was also a coping strategy against the impact coming with cancer. This cross-sectional survey used a structured questionnaire to identify six domains of information needs of family caregivers in the palliative care units, including caregiving-related, disease-related, social welfare, psychosocial, palliative-care-related, spiritual and religious, and explore how family caregivers evaluate the importance, satisfaction, and needs of these information domains. This study indicated that the most important information was disease-related. The most satisfied information was cargiving-related, and the least was psychosocial information. Over 40% of these caregivers responded that they need to know how to deal with patients' emotional disturbance. The results of this study support the importance of information provision in hospice and suggest the need to move toward development of psychosocial service in palliative care in Taiwan.
