Shi-Shuo Xin-Yü is a Chinese classic, which is an important record of the time from the Late Eastern Han Dynasty to the Earlier Liü-Sun Dynasty. The content indicates different features of that age, such as: politics, economics, society, culture, thoughts, and the life of the upper class. It is also an indispensable document for the study of the contemporary history, phonology, literature and art. Shi Jing is another Chinese classic. It is the earliest collection of poems in China. Shi Jing, as the same as the other classical works, played an important role in the epoch of libertinism. It was one of the widely quoted archives in Shi-Shuo Xin-Yü. Shi Jing was often quoted as a literary reference by the people appearing in Shi-Shuo Xin-Yü. Because the situations were not the same, the ways of quotation were different. Sometimes the original significance of the verse of the poem was quoted, but other times only the titles of the poems were. Sometimes the significance of the verse of the poems was quoted with slight changes. According to the topics in the Shi-Shuo Xin-Yü, it is easily found out that the contemporary intellectuals were highly interested in commenting on the Shi Jing whether it was good or bad. On the other hand they were also interested in imitation of writing poems like the Shi Jing. At the same time they tried to rewrite missing poems.
