An analysis of tonsillar specimen was conducted in 35 patients who received bilateral tonsillectomy between December 1992 and November 1994 at Taipei Municipal Chung-Hsiao Hospital. All the patients suffered from recurrent tonsillitis before operation. The symptoms and histopathological findings were reviewed. Histologic preparations revealed 15 (42.9%) patients had actinomycotic granules in the tonsillar crypts. However, no other specific histopathological findings were noted. Besides, the clinical symptoms and the size of the removed tonsils between the patients of chronic tonsillitis with and without actinomycosis had no statistically significant difference.
