Investigation of Dental Assistant's Manpower in Kaohsiung, Pingtung and Penghu Areas

摘要

本次調查目的在了解研究地區牙醫助理的人力任用以及人力分佈情形。研究對象是高高屏澎所有的牙科醫療院所，於2003年10月藉由電話訪問的方式，計算出所有的牙醫助理人數。結果顯示調查地區的牙科醫療院所共904家，接受電話訪問的共有890家(98.45%)，其中牙醫師人數為1332名，牙醫助理人數為1923名，每位牙醫師平均任用1.44位牙醫助理。平均每家牙科醫療院所聘用2.16位牙醫助理。有14.49%（129家）的牙科醫療院所未聘用助理協助工作，24.38%（217家）牙科醫療院所聘請一位牙醫助理。10.59%（141位）牙醫師未聘用牙醫助理。調查結果可作為牙科經營者聘用醫療人力以及政府制定牙科輔助人員相關政策時的參考。

The largest proportion of dental auxiliaries is made up of dental assistants. Determining whether to hire a dental assistant and how many staff should be hired are still controversial issues for dentists. Furthermore, there are now professional staff which have graduated in oral hygiene and are investing in dental teamwork; therefore, the reasonable allocation and distribution of human capital in order to maintain oral medical care quality and achieve cost benefits is an even greater challenge for dental management. The purpose of this study was to investigate the utilization and distribution of dental assistants in the Kaohsiung, Pingtung, and Penghu areas. The participants were contacted by phone in order to count the number of dental assistants in each dental office. This survey was performed in October 2003; of the 904 dental offices in the study area, 890 (98.45%) agreed to participate in the survey, and there were 1332 dentists and 1923 dental assistants in these 890 dental offices. Result showed that on average 1.44 dental assistants worked for each dentist; 129 (14.49%) dental offices in the survey had hired no assistants, and 217 (24.38%) dental offices had hired only 1 assistant. There were 141 (10.59%) dentists who had hired no assistant. The results of this study can provide institutions with a reference for the government when writing dental auxiliary-related laws and for human resource planning for dental management.
