An Alternative Method for Fabrication of An Open Hollow obturator-case Report

並列摘要

To minimize the weight of the obturator, a variety of methods have been presented for hollow obturator fabrication. This article describes an alternative method for fabricating an open hollow obturator that involves digging a hole through the base of the cast. This type of obturator was provided to a patient with a partial resection of the left maxilla extending from the midline to the anterior border of the left tuberosity due to an adenocarcinoma of the left maxillary sinus. This alternative technique resulted in a lightweight, 1-piece prosthesis without the disadvantages of leakage or discoloration encountered with traditional closed hollow obturators and with the advantage of allowing control of the thickness of the hollow portion.
