This essay tries to compare two scholars' theories on democratization. One is Potter and others' Democratization. The other is Samuel Huntington's The Third Wave. We found that there are some similarities between these two theories. Essentially, factors such as legitimacy, economy, and external factors played important roles in the process of democratization. A further study of their theories should be able to help us to understand more clearly of current development of democratization in several countries such as those in Russia's neighbors.
