摘要

從幾年前開始，有一些先驅者在網路上發行電子期刊，並透過電子郵件或檔案傳輸的方式將全文期刊送到訂戶的個人電腦中。大部分的電子期刊是免費可取得的，或者僅收取少許的費用。
網路中所出版的電子期刊，有許多是屬於通訊報導式的電子簡訊，對熱門話題提供及時性的資訊。這種電子簡訊，一般有一些人負責編輯的工作，其內容包括短文、新聞性的消息、編輯者的話。此外，另包括有許多讀者所提供的資訊。
網路中所出版的電子期刊，除了通訊報導形態的刊物以外，也有許多學術性的電子學報。電子學報通常有較正式的編輯群以及審查制度，刊登學術性論文、專欄以及評論，非常類似紙本期刊。
本文探討電子期刊的定義、網路電子期刊之源起與發展、網路電子期刊之優缺點並探討網路電子期刊未來之發展等。

During the last few years, a small group of pioneering publishers on the net has been distributing full-text electronic serials to subscribers via e-mail messages or file transfers. Usually, they are free of charge.
There are a number of electronic newsletters on the net, These publications usually have small editorial staffs. In addition to short articles, news items, and editorial commentary, electronic newsletters typically contain a variety of reader-submitted materials.
Besides electronic newsletters, there are a growing number of electronic journals on the net. These journals typically have several people on the editorial staff and a formal editorial hoard. Many of these journals are refereed. They often mirror print journals, containing editorials, scholarly articles, columns, and reviews.
This article discusses several electronic journal related topics, including: definitions of electronic journal, histroical development of electronic journal on the net, advantages and disadvantages of electronic journal, future development of electronic journal on the net.
