摘要

本文利用相關的文獻，試圖討論國家機制如何影響苗栗山區的人口移動狀況，首先來看政府如何利用武力征討，來推進管轄區域的範圍，正式建立民政體制，進而吸引漢人入內遷移，完成行政空間的擴張。
