美軍駐臺與老淡水高爾夫球場的發展（1951－1979）

1950年韓戰爆發後，美軍顧問團開始協防臺灣，由於高爾夫兼具休閒與外交等性質，因此成為美軍駐臺期間臺美軍方大力支持的運動產業。以老淡水球場為例，美軍經管後不僅協助恢復飽受戰火的球場原貌，經營方式如飲食與商品販售等也開始走向美式風格，進場揮桿的美軍也成為了戰後老淡水球場的主要客源。有了美軍的協助與消費，老淡水球場不僅得以在困苦的年代中生存，不少以球場維生的桿弟甚至從美軍的小費、比賽與其獎品中慢慢力爭上游，最後成為國際舞臺的高爾夫名將。不少美軍高階將領在老淡水球場揮桿，並與本土球師切磋比劃，該球場甚至見證了臺美兩國共同舉行的軍事演習。臺灣軍方深知高爾夫運動的特殊性，以部分高爾夫的高階將領為中心，在推廣與栽培選手等各方面皆不遺餘力，逐漸發展出軍方主導臺灣高爾夫發展的特殊現象。因此美軍駐臺不僅關係著這座島嶼的命運，事實上也影響了臺灣的高球發展，其駐臺期間的老淡水球場或許能夠反應1952年至1970年代臺灣高爾夫發展的概況，成為臺灣高爾夫球發展史上的參考案例。

USA Military Assistance Advisory Group secured the peace of Taiwan after Korean War. Because golf combines two functions of leisure and diplomacy, both Taiwan and USA supported this sport industry during the period of Military Assistance Advisory Group. Take old Tamsui golf course as an example. USA military helped to restore the golf course in the aftermath of the war, and the business practices, such as the way to sell drinks and goods, were Americanized. American soldiers became the main customers in the old Tamsui golf course after war. With the assistance and consumption from USA military, old Tamsui golf course was able to survive in such difficult years. Many caddies turned out to be international golfers because of the financial supports from American soldiers' tips and competition rewards. Realizing the specialty of golf, Taiwan military supported and promoted the sport and players, and they became the upper-class leaders, and then developed a special situation, which is the golf development was controlled by the military. Hence, USA Military Assistance Advisory Group not only secured Taiwan but also had a great influence on the development of golf in Taiwan. The old Tamsui golf course is a typical example to express the growth of golf after war.
