Investment Motives, Technology Transfer Content and Manufacturing Performance – A Study of Taiwanese Foreign Direct Investment in Thailand

摘要

本研究探討對外直接投資動機、技術移轉內涵與製造績效之關係；同時也驗股權結構是否影響技術移轉內涵與製造績效間之關係。本研究分析了91家在泰國之臺商電子公司，結果發現：1）採取預應策略之廠商比採取因應策略之廠商提供較高水準的技術訓練與內隱性知識的教育訓練；2）技術移轉內涵對製造的品質、交期、彈性等績效有正向的影響；3）股權結構會影響技術移轉內涵與製造的品質及交期績效間之關係。本文也針對研究結果提出其管理意涵以供參考。

This study investigates the motives for foreign direct investment (FDI), technology transfer content, and manufacturing performance. It also examines whether the relationships between technology transfer content and manufacturing performance are moderated by the types of ownership. Data from 91 Taiwanese electronic firms in Thailand were collected and analyzed. The findings indicate the following: 1) Companies adopting a proactive strategy provide higher levels of technique training and tacit knowledge education than those employing a reactive strategy; 2) technology transfer content positively influences manufacturing quality, delivery, and flexibility performance; 3) the types of ownership moderate the relationship between technology transfer content and manufacturing quality and delivery performance. Managerial implications are provided as well.
