A brief description of a diode simulation code and results of simulations on relativistic electron beam are presented. The beam current was found not only pinched but also pulsed by our simulations. The mechanism responsible for these two nonlinear effects are compared. Our study on the displacement current contribution to the pinch effect shows that displacement current provides such a significant counter-pinch effect that it should never be neglected, and that any presumption of the existence of a steady state solution is not justified. A possible application of the pulsed electron beams to microwave generation is also briefly discussed.
