Long-Term Results of ACL Reconstruction Using Modified Eriksson's Procedure – 10 Years Follow-Up

並列摘要

The clinical results of 21 patients, who has undergone ACL reconstruction using modified Eriksson’s procedure, were studied after an average follow-up period of 90.4 months (60-120 months). There are 15 males & 6 females with an average age of 36.9 (24-53) years at the time of operation. The interval between injury and operation ranged from 3 to 84 months. Modified Eriksson’s procedure was performed for symptomatic unstable knees between July 1984 and June 1989. Conservative rehabilitation was adopted including cast immobilization for 6 weeks, then full weight-bearing at 4 months and full activity 12 Months postoperatively. Mean Lysholm score was 55.6 preoperatively & 92.2 at follow-up.Good to excel-lent ratio and satisfactory rate was 83.3%(15/18) and 88.%(16/18) respectively. There are no infection nor delay of wound healing. However, quadriceps atrophy was noted in all but 2 cases indicating inadequacy of rehabilitation program.ROM limitation and irritation of staple was also noted in 2 patients respectively. Lateral tilting of patella, which was not reported by Eriksson and other authors, was noted in 3 earlier cases of this series. Simultaneous lateral retinacular release should be re-garded as a must to prevent this potential complication. So far there is no unanimous agreement regarding the ideal treatment for the torn ACL. Though arthroscopic ACL reconstruction using bone-patellar tendon –bone graft has become popular in recent years, its anticipated advantages of earlier mobilization, fewer patellofemoral prob-lems and increased quadriceps strength still need to be confirmed by long-term clinical treals.Modified Eriksson’s procedure provides satisfactory results for reconstructionof the torn ACL acute or chronic after longterm follow-up.
