The special geometry makes structural coupling prominent because the appearance of modern bridges has become more complex due to the aesthetics design. Most of the traditional methods of equivalent static wind load are not suitable for this kind of structures because the modal correlation is ignored when dealing with the resonance parts. This study aims at developing an ideal way to calculate the equivalent static wind load for complex structures with significant structural coupling. The article consists of two parts, first part introduces the proposed theory of equivalent static wind load, which is, directed to the extreme displacement at a single specific degree of freedom. The method is an extension of the traditional bridge buffeting analysis so that the aero-elastic behavior can be taken into account by flutter derivatives if needed. And the second part is the verification that two bridges were selected as the examples, which is according to the level of structural coupling. Both results show that the equivalent static wind load calculated by proposed method, which is able to reproduce the dynamic extreme displacement of bridge perfectly.
