"Spiritual exercises" is the core concept in Pierre Hadot's philosophy of cultivate one's morality. Around this concept, Hadot has devoted all his life to commenting and interpreting ancient philosophical texts. His purpose is to reveal the running time of the ancient philosophy through cultivate one's morality practice, in order to provide a kind of the model of living that can be learned and achieved. There is no doubt that this is a reinterpretation of the "spiritual exercises" of St. Ignatius of Loyola, also a confirmation of the old meaning of "philosophy" in contemporary. This article respectively investigates the four perspectives of ancient origin and contemporary transformation of "spiritual exercises" from historical origin, fundamental connotation, moral practice of self-cultivation and integration of Chinese and Western philosophies, and points out that Hadot's interpretation about the "way of life" of "spiritual exercises" is different from the meaning of religion. This is not only able to correct our understanding of philosophy itself, but also can answer the contemporary life choice how to inherit the wisdom of the ancients.
