The Ghostly Texts and Images: On Ding Cheng's Poetry and Paintings

In this essay, I analyze the poetry and visual art works of Ding Cheng, a Chinese poet and painter, in the light of the theories of Lacan, Derrida, Jameson and Ranciere, and examine how his works, by creating demonic images, subvert the domination of the symbolic order of the holy Other. My discussions also include the relationships between Ding's poetry writings and paintings, as well as their relationships with Chinese/Western (post-)modernist traditions.
