Evaluation of Beauveria bassiana for Controlling Casuarina Tussock Moth (Lymantria xylina Swinhoe) in Casuarina Plantations

摘要


黑角舞蛾是本省木麻黃防風林的重要害蟲,嚴重危害本省沿岸木麻黃防風林,最近一次火發生出現於1996年。本試驗主要利用白殭菌(Beauveria bassiana)Bb-tz菌株測試其防治黑角舞蛾之潛力。將Bb-tz菌株胞子懸浮液噴佈於3-5齡之黑角舞蛾幼蟲,經7日後時罹病率可達83%。Bb-tz菌株的菌絲在SDYA培養基上生長較PDA培養基為佳,但在PDA培養基之產胞量則較多。此菌胞子發芽及菌絲生長溫度範圍10-30℃,其中以25℃最為適合,至於在5及35℃培養時則不生長。本菌胞子在玻片上風乾12h後,則明顯喪失發芽能力。若將胞子加入無菌水製備成為胞子懸浮液,保存6個月後其發芽率仍可達93.2%。

Casuarina tussock moth (Lymantria xylina) is a significant destructive pest of casuarina plantations on the western coast of Taiwan. The latest outbreak of the moth was recorded in 1996. The potential of entomopathogenic fungi for controlling casuarina moths in casuarina plantations was evaluated. The isolate Bb-tz of Beauveria bassiana was shown to be pathogenic to the moth. After spraying the spore suspension of isolate Bb-tz, 83% of the larvae of Lymantria xylina were infected within 7 days. SDYA medium appeared to be better for mycelial growth of isolate Bb-tz than was PDA medium. However, isolate Bb-tz generated more conidia on PDA medium. For conidial germination and mycelial growth, the optimum temperature was around 25℃. The spores of isolate Bb-tz did not germinate after air drying for 12h. After keeping the spores in distilled water for 6 months, the percentage of germination remained as high as 93.2%.
