摘要

本文研究目的，為探討「焚香」之神聖性運用與世俗化行為發展。藉由文獻資料，與筆者田野調查拜訪道士壇，以及大里與大雅兩個地區，金香鋪的田野調查訪談資料進行探討。本文將焚香行為的使用者，分為神職人員及普羅大眾二種；筆者以神職人員的角度，分別從道教科儀、咒語運用、常民生活為切入點，並認為「香」繼承了最原始的祭祀精神，同時也承載了使用者所託付的龐大訊息量。藉此印證焚香行為，不僅是物質文化的表現，更是深刻的融入在臺灣的常民生活之中。

The research aimed to investigate the sacred use and the development of secularization of burning incense. The researcher consulted literatures, visited Taoist shrines, and interviewed with the workers in religious supplies shops through field studies in Dali and Daya districts. The current study categorized the users of burning incense into two types: priests and the general public. Viewing from the perspective of a priest, the researcher focused on Taoism ritualistic patterns, the use of spells, and general public's life. The researcher considered ＂incense＂ bore the original spirit of worship as well as the massive amount of prayers from its holders, which verified such behavior not only manifested material culture, but also was deeply rooted in the life of Taiwanese.
