Inoculation of Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi on the Growth and Cadmium Accumulation of Impatiens (Impatiens walleriana) Grown in Saline Soils

Impatiens (Impatiens walleriana) can accumulate high concentration of cadmium (Cd) and was evidenced as a potential Cd hyperaccumulator. Nevertheless, high concentration of Cd had negative influence on the growth. Results of previous studies revealed that the inoculation of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) can promote the growth and accumulation of heavy metal of plants. In this study, cuttings of impatiens were planted in the Cd-contaminated soils inoculated with high proportion of AMF to assess AMF's function. Experiment result showed that the electrical conductivity of AMF amended soil affected the growth of impatiens. For most of the treatments and possible resulted from the high electrical conductivity of saline soils, the concentration and total removal of Cd in the AMF inoculated impatiens were lower than non-inoculated treatments regardless of organs.
