Aim: The purpose of this qualitative study was to explore the living experiences of discharged burn patients. Methods: Patients who had been discharged for three months to one year were recruited from a teaching hospital in mid-southern Taiwan. Purposive sampling of eight participants were interviewed. Colaizzi (1978) phenomenological methods were used to analyze interview transcripts. Results: Three themes of living experiences in discharged burn patients were identified: ”Suffering of post-trauma”, ”Needs after discharge” and ”Coping with the trauma”. Conclusions: The findings provide valuable information about the living experiences of discharged burn patients. By understanding the living experience of these patients, health care providers can provide individualized intervention that can enhance patient self-care and adaptation to life after discharge.
