Iron Treatment and Nursing Care of Hemodialysis Patients

Understanding the mechanism of iron metabolism and accurately assessing iron status is important in taking care of the dialysis patient who potentially has the problem of iron deficiency. Monitoring the response to iron supplementation and care of any side effects is essential for nurses in order to provide adequate intervention and health instruction for these patients.
