”Falls” always occupies the top three issues in the Taiwan Patient Safety Reporting System (TPR) from hospitals nationwide. Previously studies revealed that 40% of falls in aged people is associated with medicine, especially in several types of drug such as diuretics, laxotives, narcotics, antihypertensives, sedatives, antipsychotics, antidepressants, hypoglycemics, anticonvulsants, anticholinergics, anesthetics and antihistamines. Injury caused by falls may lead to medical disputes and increased days in hospital together with higher treatment costs. By identifying and understanding the drugs that may increase the risk of falling, we will improve the healthcare provided by the medical team to the patients and also achieve the objective of promoting drug safety.
