By advanced deployment and implementation of multiple epidemic prevention measures, Taiwan has significantly reduced the damages caused by the new coronavirus pneumonia (COVID-19) global pandemic and unveiled its impact on the medical system. The problems challenge the responsiveness of the public and medical personnel but provide an opportunity for healthcare culture transformation, including the internalization of epidemic prevention measures, establishment of appropriate and simplified processes to ensure patient safety, and introduction of intelligent tools that reduce work pressure. On acceptance of the first suspected COVID-19 case, the surgical department of the Ren-Ai branch, Taipei City Hospital, revised the infection control and operation process of the operating room for COVID-19 patients. The operating room team reviewed, amended, and integrated the process to simpleness and robustness. More importantly, the pandemic has brought the power of change on humanistic literacy, empathetic care, and public participation, which shall cause significant changes in medical culture in the post-COVID-19 pandemic era.
