A novel solvothermal route has been developed to the synthesis of Tungsten trioxide (WO3) nanowires. The tungsten hexachloride was used as a source and WO3 were obtained by solvothermal treatment with ethanol at 100℃ for 10 h. When the as-prepared WO3 were treated with ethanol for another 10 h, the structures of WO3 were transformed from nanosheets to nanowires as the temperature increased from 100 to 150℃. The cyclic voltammograms analysis showed that the WO3 nanowires exhibit a better electrochromic response that the WO3 nanosheets. The electrochromic response could be improved when the WO3 nanowires were annealed at 400℃ for 2 h. Using the proposed method, the morphologies of single-crystal WO3 could be well controlled.
