Tminun as Truku education of sovereignty

This is an anthropological ethnography that investigates tminun (traditional weaving) as a vigorous phenomenon across various Truku communities. And it explores the meaning of weaving a piece of qabang (traditional quilt) in contemporary society. Nowadays Truku parents still emphasize the value of being diligent and gaya (ancestor's words as norms) in family education. Tminun as a consistent cultural practice contains the old and new, and embodies the language, bodily movement and labour, living environment and thoughts of Truku people. Weaving by ubung (traditional wooden weaving machine) is material culture inherited from the ancestors, while evolves new meanings. A weaver is much more motivated, and weaving more often than not becomes the way in which a person reconnects to Truku culture. But it is more than that. In a decolonized project, subjectivity is established by recovering language and memories. Through tminun, Truku language, identity, and the subjectivity of teaching and learning can be all returned. Additionally, from the perspective of holistic education, which combines the mind and body in understanding, weaving coheres. Tminun enables people to learn, construct her/his own thoughts though the body, and explore and enrich her/his thoughts through creation. Therefore, by way of understanding the inner world of a subject, tminun is potentially the education of sovereignty.
