The Causal Model Analysis of New Coronavirus Stress on Firefighters' Post-Traumatic Stress Syndrome and Insomnia

As the front line of epidemic prevention, firefighters are responsible for the transportation of infected cases. Faced with the unclear nature and transmission route of the virus, and the virus vaccine has not yet been developed, there is a lot of pressure from the new coronavirus. Firefighters are particularly concerned about infecting their families with the virus because of their jobs. Whether the stress of the new coronavirus causes firefighters' post-traumatic stress syndrome and insomnia is worth exploring. And whether firefighters adopt problem-solving strategies to reduce symptoms of PTSD is also the focus of this study. In this study, firefighters from all over Taiwan were used as the research objects, and a total of 453 valid samples were obtained. The established hypotheses were tested using confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modeling. The results of the study confirmed that the new coronavirus stress positively affects post-traumatic stress syndrome and insomnia. Problem-solving strategies negatively affect post-traumatic stress disorder. Worry about family members being infected is positively affecting the stress of the new coronavirus.
