During the Chinese Civil War, the missionaries of Christian and Missionary Alliance (C&MA) evacuated from mainland China. Before they left China, the missionaries transferred church properties to the local Chinese churches to provide them with resources needed to face the challenges of the new era. After the founding of the PRC in 1949, the barrage of national political movements caused the Chinese church much sorrow. Her leaders were either replaced or persecuted. The C&MA of Guangxi had no choice but to follow the new policies and embraced patriotism. It eventually merged into the Three-Self Patriotic Church and disappeared completely from mainland China.
