Culture and Development: An Exposition of the Interconnectivity (A Review Article)

並列摘要

For more than a century now, there have been debates on the link between culture and the level of development of a society. The major objective of this study is to establish a link between culture and development. Specifically, the study is aimed at identifying how the different components of culture can be harnessed to stimulate development in human societies. By way of research methodology, the writer made use of secondary sources of data which involves a review of works done by other researchers in this field. Thus text books, journals, institutional publications, and a host of related materials were consulted in the course of this research. The study discovered that culture and development are intertwined. The study also discovered that there is no aspect of the human ways of life that does not have its positive and negative sides. The onus however lies on the people to harness and maximize the positive aspects of these ways of life to bring about development. The writer concludes by recommending that culture in every human society, should be regenerative and should offer opportunities to be harnessed for the improvement in the standard of living of the people. A society where people are not proud of their culture finds it difficult to step into the wheels of sustainable growth and development.
