Multiple transchondral drilling would be an adequate treatment option for adult osteochondritis dissecans: A case report

摘要

Osteochondritis dissecans (OCD) of the knee commonly causes pain and functional limitations of the knee joints. OCD occurs more often in the medial femur condyle than the lateral condyle. Multiple transchondral drilling has been proved to be an effective method in treating juvenile OCD. Since applying multiple drilling for treating adult OCD was rarely discussed, we reported the treatment outcome of multiple drilling in a 20-year-old male with a massive OCD lesion at the lateral femoral condyle, accompanied with a noncomplete type discoid meniscus. After 1 year of follow up, both visual analogue scale and International Knee Documentaion Committee score significantly improved; images studies also suggested nearly complete remission of the OCD lesion and meniscus tear. We suggested that multiple transchondral drilling would be an adequate treatment option for adult OCD of lateral femoral condyle.
