Combined medial and lateral elbow instability in a badminton player: A case report

摘要

Elbow stability is a complex issue that involves bony and ligamentous stabilizers. With the help of cadaveric studies, biomechanical analysis, and improvements in image techniques, a better understanding of elbow anatomy, and the constituent contributors to elbow stability became possible. Advancement in surgical techniques and postoperative rehabilitation, on the other hand, allows a more comprehensive picture of the mechanics when elbow stability is compromised. The most common etiology of elbow instability is about the injury that resulted in the loss of important stabilizers. In the patients who simultaneously had lateral and ulnar collateral ligament complex insufficiency, detailed evaluation and ligament reconstruction have been suggested for the resumption of elbow health and the joint's meaningful daily function. Herein, we reported a 59-year-old amateur badminton player with both ulnar and lateral ulnar collateral ligaments tear who initially received non-operative management but then proceeded with autograft reconstruction of both ligaments. Through this case, we would like to share our experience of treating bilateral collateral ligament with gracilis-semitendinosus tendon autograft.
