摘要

Play Therapists frequently use expressive arts and sandtray in counseling to assist clients in communicating that which they have difficulty putting to words. These modalities facilitate insight and growth on a deeper level for clients. Supervisors of play therapy find it useful to use expressive arts in the supervision process. Expressive arts and sandtray can be used to facilitate skill development as well as personal growth in the development of a therapist. The Integrative Developmental Model (Stoltenberg & Delworth, 2010) provides supervisors a theoretical model of supervisee development and can be helpful to guide supervisors in meeting the needs of their supervisees. Authors provide examples of expressive art and sandtray activities that can be used at each developmental level for play therapy supervisees. Integrating expressive arts and sandtray into the supervision process provides supervisors and supervisees with insight regarding clients as well as themselves that may not be achieved through traditional self-report supervision. Modeling self-reflection in supervision is important for supervisees so that once they move on from supervision they will have those skills integrated into their counseling practice. Expressive arts and sandtray are a useful tool in facilitating self-reflection for supervisees.
