Student Movement in the Changing Society: The Incidents of Chinese Language Society of University Malaya (1971-1974)

摘要


1970年代初期的马来西亚,社会正处于政治和族群关系紧绷状态,加上现代化的进程和社会变迁带来的失调,在在波及大学校园。马来亚大学(马大)在1960年代末开始,就身处学生运动的波澜之中,由华族学生组成的马来亚大学华文学会也没有缺席,同样捲入学运风潮。马大华文学会受左翼政治影响,以文艺表演的途径,在学生和社会中发挥影响,自1972年起组织大型的文艺汇演,在全国演出。虽然只属文化活动,未在政治上产生实质冲击,但政府仍在1974年12月採取镇压行动,逮捕学生领袖,并解散华文学会。本文旨在就相关事件进行初步的重建,以为往后的分析研究提供条件。

In the early 1970s, there was political and ethnic tensions in Malaysia, moreover, rapid social change created disorder and chaos, all these led to unrest in Malaysia universities. In University Malaya, student organizations and student movements emerged in the late 1960s, including Chinese Language Society of University Malaya (CLSUM) which organized by Chinese students. Inspired by left wing politics, CLSUM tried to influence society and students through art show. Since 1972, CLSUM had organized theater drama and performed nationwide, although the drama performance was a cultural activity without any political intension, it still suppressed by government. In December 1974, government arrested several student leaders, and these students were accused of involving subversive activities. At the same time, government also banned CLSUM.
