The Transformation of Mysticism in Luther's Theology

路德神學中神祕主義的轉型

Linking Luther to mysticism has always been a difficult issue in theology. However, the influence that the Wittenberg Protestant reformer had on the development of mysticism in the past decadeis undeniable. His sermons and teachings were full of mystical godliness. Luther's idea of repentance is completely in line with medieval thought and the medieval godliness, and it is riddled with the influence of mysticism. Through the exploration of three major theological topics-namely, law and gospel, justification by faith alone, and universal priesthood-the researchers aim to highlight the connections between Luther's theology and mysticism and how mysticism contributed to the transformation of Luther's thought. Researchers believe that Luther's process for developing his own theological teachings was rooted in mysticism to a far greater extent than previously believed. Mysticism did not support Luther's previous deliberations, nor did it act as the carrier of his thought. Rather, mysticism constituted a crucialpoint of enlightenment for Luther, causing him to consequently develop his own theological teachings.
