摘要

本文從民國初年湖南長沙坡子街的命名糾紛談起，剖析此事其實是地方領袖與地方政府長期對立的其中一件事件。事件的主線是地方領袖與地方政府圍繞城市空間和社會資源的角力；旁線是地方商人與國家政權的疏離，以及地方權力架構的轉變。此事的來龍去脈，說明在二十世紀初年對街道事務具有很大影響力的商人一直抗拒地方政府權力的滲入。

This study examines the conflict between local elites and the government in Changsha, Hunan over the naming of a street in the early Republican period to demonstrate the resistance of local merchants, who had previously dominated urban affairs, against the penetration of government power into local communities in the early twentieth century. This case illustrates the struggle between local elites and the government over the control of urban space and social resources, the alienation of local merchants from the government, and changes in local power structure.
