Venerable Master Hsing Yun's Humanistic Buddhism Thought is based on the tradition of Chinese culture as well as an emphasis on humanism, which is the Buddhist idea of attaining Buddhahood in this world. During the era of Sui & Tang Dynasties, there were eight different Buddhist Schools which all prospered simultaneously. Even though the schools all had the same teaching goal, each taught with a different doctrine. Eventually, the 〞Five-Vehicle Buddhism〞 viewpoint emerged with the combination of Confucian and Taoist thoughts. The modernization of Chinese Buddhism should be based upon the spirit of creation based on causes while embracing Southern, Indian, and Tibetan Buddhist traditions as well as modern academic research in order to benefit itself. What Venerable Master Hsing Yun has inherited, Humanistic Buddhism, is based on the Chinese traditional spirit and the simultaneous propagation of the Eight Buddhist Schools. Furthermore, it embraces other Buddhist traditions, also modern academic and cultural thoughts. All of these factors have brought Buddhism into the twenty-first century and have led Humanistic Buddhism to become a role model for carrying forward Buddhism in the world.
