Can I Go Abroad Happily? Evaluating The Nature Of Hassles In The Airport From The Perspective Of Independent Tourists

In the past, only few studies have investigated airport-related hassles. To gain insight into the hassles experienced by independent tourists at airports, this study conducted a two-stage survey. The first stage of the survey involved a semistructured online survey, where independent tourists with experience traveling abroad were invited to complete the survey. A total of 101 valid questionnaires were collected, from which a list of 35 airport-related hassles was compiled. The second stage of the survey entailed designing a questionnaire using the list, visiting Taoyuan International Airport in person to hand out the questionnaire, and asking participants to fill out the questionnaire inquiring about airport-related hassles they had encountered at either Taoyuan International Airport, Narita International Airport (in Tokyo Japan), or Hong Kong International Airport. Of all the returned questionnaires, 243 were valid. After exploratory factor analysis of the data, four factors are named: airport service problems, traffic guidance problems, recreation quality problems, baggage check problems, and a 20-items of airport-related hassles were obtained. In addition, it also compares the differences in the hassle experience of the three airports. and the results provide the airport operation management unit as a reference for improving airport services in the future.
