The concern of this paper is to construct a possible model to interpret the relation between religion (Christianity in particular) and ethics. This paper argues that both the divine command theory and the natural law fail to provide a theological and ethical sound model to understand the relation between religion and ethics, for they are either exclusive or inclusive. On the other hand, this paper suggests the appropriateness of a personal model. This model lies on the common concern of religion and ethics, that is, the meaning of being human. The strengths of the personal model are to allow religion to be religion, and acknowledge its unique contribution to the welfare of humans.
