This series of in-depth reports feature the Muslims living in Taiwan, and attempt to explore their life experiences as well as social neglecting in the whole society. As islamophobia prevails over the world, Muslims are often misrepresented and connected with negative images. Besides, the growing trend of Halal market seems to encourage a “Muslim-friendly” environment, but could also lead to a simplified understanding toward Muslims without truly knowing the culture value behind them. These in-depth reports aim to break the stereotype of Muslims through different chapters of life stories, and hopefully, serve as a starting point for mainstream Taiwan society to learn more about Muslims and Islam with less prejudice. The first two chapters tell the stories of Muslims and converted Muslims who live in Taiwan on how they cope with discrimination every day. The third chapter examines how business entities and government in Taiwan are struggling to catch up with the Halal market trend. Aside from the marketing-driven perspective, the fourth chapter celebrates the social involvement initiated by young Muslims and Taiwanese youth, who show the society different ways of building mutual communication. The last two chapters feature the biggest Muslim community in Taiwan, to see how Muslim Indonesian migrant workers practice their religion despite the limited resources and autonomy.
