This study aims to identify the dilemma and needs of medical personnel when dealing with cases of domestic violence. Analysis was based on in-depth interview with four nurses, one social workers, and three doctors. Interactions among the professional team were also explored. The results indicated that shortage of manpower, exposure to perpetrator's violence, and lack of supportive public policy were most concerned by personnel in the setting of emergency room. they also questioned about government's role in prevention of domestic violence. In addition, it was found that some personnel were not well-trained enough to identify victims, or considered domestic violence as family matters with no need of intervention, particularly for male workers. The findings recommend that government should secure budgets to the prevention and intervention of domestic violence. On the other hand, we need to improve the sensitivity of front-line workers in identifying victims, strengthen their willingness to provide adequate services, and strengthen their ability in dealing with it.
