Road Development is an important factor for urban development. In facing the issues of urban expansion, land use change, and urban-planning, the road development factor inevitably needs to be considered and analyzed. This study focuses on the relation between road and land-use change of Taichung city plain area. The objective is to clarify the sub-connections of the patterns of urban land use change related to the road patterns. Spatial neighborhood analysis technique is applied to explore the evolution of spatial structure in urban land use and the interaction between roads and land use change... Major factors affecting Taichung city land use change include social, economic, and political backgrounds. The connections among road, land-use and its change are closely related even under the influence of these complicated factors. This study result shows that road factor not only functions as an indicator on Taichung land use change and urban expansion but also the road pattern is taken as a restrained condition upon land use change and urban development potential. The neighborhood road patterns influence the patterns of Taichung city land use and its change. The connections between road pattern itself and land use are considerably complicated - different road scales and functions have different influence on land use change. Further study may explore the trends of the relation between land use change and the neighborhood road density.
