The topic of this paper is to investigate handing performance of six-wheel vehicles by constructing the 3 DOF (Degree Of Freedom) dynamic model which consists of vehicle side-slip angle, yaw rate and roll angle. The handling performance of four-wheel vehicles is employed to compare the characteristic of six-wheel vehicles. Then to analyze how the handling performance of six-wheel vehicles would be affected by changing the middle axle position, the height of center gravity, the total roll stiffness, the wheel camber thrust coefficient and roll steer coefficient respectively at time and frequency domain. The steering system of multi-axles was applied to achieve zero side-slip angle control, and the developed control strategy was capable of improving the dynamic performance of six-wheel vehicles at time and frequency domain. The goal is to reduce the side-slip angle of six-wheel vehicles and keep the steering characteristics the same as four wheel vehicles. Finally, the analyzed results would be present by the Matlab software.
