Objective: The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effectiveness of the Community Treatment Program (CTP) in Belize where it was established to treat patients with severe mental illness (SMI). Method: Admissions rates and length of hospital stay were collected for 89 patients registered with the team. The main outcome measure was the number of admissions and length of hospital stay two years before and after the implementation of the CTP. Results: The average number of admissions and length of stay before program implememtation decreased from 0.74 (SD = 1.39) to 0.09 (SD= 0.39) and 41.64 (SD = 102.30) to 0.90 (SD = 4.06) after program implementation respectively. There was a significant difference in number of admissions and length of stay before and after program implementation (p <0.001). Conclusion: The CTP is effective in significantly reducing number of readmisions and length of hospital stay in persistent and SMI.
