本論文旨在比較威廉‧莎士比亞(William Shakespeare)《羅密歐與朱麗葉》(Romeo And Juliet)兩中文譯本間之差異,譯者分別為梁實秋和方平。藉由比較翻譯策略和風格不同的譯本,可了解翻譯的差別,也可欣賞《羅密歐與朱麗葉》此一戲劇名著。本論文共分五章,第一章說明筆者的研究動機、研究目的和研究方法。第二章介紹《羅密歐與朱麗葉》的作者和內容、譯者介紹、戲劇翻譯以及其他翻譯理論相關文獻。第三章和第四章分別從文學和翻譯理論的觀點比較兩譯本,透過擷取段落例句,探討譯者對比喻、押韻等文學修辭法的翻譯,以及運用歸化或異化、詞彙轉換等方式翻譯原文的結果。在第五章結論中,筆者指出:梁實秋的譯文偏向異化翻譯、形式對等、譯文優雅,將此劇翻譯得相當仔細。方平的譯文則傾向歸化翻譯、動態對等、生動活潑,適合閱讀也富有舞台表演效果。透過比較不同的中譯本,希望本論文可以對戲劇翻譯及對莎士比亞戲劇的研究有所貢獻。
This thesis aims at researching and comparing the differences between two Chinese translations of Romeo and Juliet, one of William Shakespeare’s master pieces. The translators of the two different Chinese versions are Liang Shih-chiu and Fang Ping. Through comparing the two translations, the author can learn different translation strategies and also appreciate the essence of the classic drama. This thesis is divided into five chapters. The first chapter explains the motive, the purpose and the methodology. The second chapter introduces the William Shakespeare and the contents of the Romeo and Juliet, the background of the translators, the translation of drama and other documents related to translation. The third and fourth chapters compare the two translation results through analyzing literature and explaining translation strategies from comparative perspectives. The author explains how translators deal with rhetorical devices and how they translate the original texts through the use of domestication or foreignization and other translation strategies. The last chapter is the conclusion of author’s comparative research of the two different translations. Liang’s translation tends to demonstrate more foreignization, formal equivalence and graceful writing style. Fang’s translation tends to demonstrate more domestication, dynamic equivalence and colloquial writing style. The author hopes this thesis will help those who are interested in drama translation and Shakespeare’s dramatic masterpieces.
