With the advancement of technology, audiences have various choices from TV, VCD, DVD, or the Internet for the enjoyment of foreign movies or shows. Different subtitle translators work in different media producing several versions of translation for the same work in the market. Researcher took Season Five of South Park as material because it was very popular in Taiwan. Its screen translators brought local-based cultural elements to the cartoon leading to discussion and attention widely. The thesis compared the audiovisual translation strategies and differences adopted by translators of TV, DVD and the Internet. Translation theories including Domestication and Foreinization, Equivalence and Skopos were adopted in the study. Additionally, grammatical usage and translation skills were adopted as well. The results of the study indicated that the subtitle of TV version applied strategies of Domestication and Equivalence to specific terms making them more acceptable for target audiences. It also showed the evidence that to attract target audiences, screen translator(s) adopted theory of Skopos in the translation. However, the strategy of Foreignization was adopted in other versions of subtitle making them hard to understand but be loyal to the original text. Furthermore, through grammatical and translation skills, the results showed that the versions of DVD and Internet contained higher frequency of Zero Translation and the Internet version also contained Interpreting skill. Finally, the results of this case study might have contribution to future subtitling studies.
