《福爾摩斯探案全集》兩個中譯本之比較研究

A Comparative Study of Two Chinese Translation Versions of “Sherlock Holmes”

摘要

以福爾摩斯(Sherlock Holmes)為主角的推理故事風靡全球，成為偵探小說經典。該小說在市面上有多達十個以上不同中文譯本，且出版年代橫跨數十年。本研究從中選取兩個有時代差距之譯本，並以實例討論的方式作譯文比較。首先，從西化現象的角度，比較兩譯本語法結構之差異，其次，以Baker (2011)提出的翻譯策略為主，整理出適用於文化詞的翻譯方法，再比較兩譯本的文化詞翻譯，由歸化與異化理論評析其文化傳遞效果。研究結果發現，本研究選用的新譯本偏向以原文為導向，譯文結構及語序較貼近原文，文化詞的部份皆盡可能按原文譯出，舊譯本則偏向以讀者為取向，譯文安排較符合中文慣用法，文化詞的呈現也多以省略或不干擾讀者閱讀的方式表現。本研究發現，不同時代譯文呈現出很大的差異，因此，經典作品譯文必須隨著時代的變遷不斷更新。本研究希望能重喚眾人對譯文更新的重視，並協助譯者辨識中文西化的特徵，避免譯文出現不必要的西化，也為棘手的文化詞翻譯提供各種可行的翻譯方法。

The classic detective fiction featuring Sherlock Holmes is popular around the world. The novel now has more than ten different Chinese translations on the market, and their publication dates span several decades. This study used two translation versions of Sherlock Holmes, which were translated at different times, and compared their translations from the perspective of translation. First, the study compared the grammatical structures between the two translations from the perspective of Westernization. Second, based on the translation method proposed by Baker (2011), the study summarized the methods applied to the translation of cultural terms, and then compared the translated cultural terms, applying domestication and foreignization strategies. The results showed that the new version of translation is inclined to be source language oriented, and its structure and word order are more faithful to the source language, and the cultural terms in the original text were translated. The old version of translation is inclined to be reader-oriented, and its Chinese translation is more idiomatic. Moreover, cultural terms tend to be omitted for reading comprehension. It is found that there are many differences between the two versions, and the translation of classical literature must be renewed with times. The study hopes to remind people of the importance of translation renewing and help translators identify the characteristics of Chinese westernization, and avoid the unnecessary westernized translations. In addition, it is hoped that the study may provide feasible translation methods for the translation of cultural terms.
